Hollywood Meets Retail

This blog post is unlikely to help you tackle your next retail challenge, but it may inspire a healthy debate around the office. We surveyed the Housemates here at Theory House to develop a list of our favorite movies featuring retail. From Steve Martin, below in “Father of the Bride,” to “40-Year Old Virgin,” shopping has made frequent cameos in the movies. Here’s our top 5. What are yours?

Father of the Bride, 1991
Steve Martin simply wants to buy an equal number of hot dogs and matching buns.

You’ve Got Mail, 1998
This scene features Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan from a movie set almost entirely within the walls of retail.

Elf, 2003
Buddy, played by Will Ferrell, shares his enthusiasm for Santa Claus’ arrival.

High Fidelity, 2000
In a scene from a bygone era, Jack Black and John Cusack work in an independent record store.

40 Year Old Virgin, 2005
It was impossible to find a G-rated clip from this movie, so be forewarned.

A few honorable mentions … Miracle on 34th Street, Employee of the Month, Clerks, One Hour Photo and Mallrats.
